Eskom en hoe hul kommunikeer.

Nou ja, dis hoe mens se vriende jou beledig om te dink navorsers is ryk?  

Maar kyk net hoe hoe doen Eskom sake en ondersteun Leon in die verband.  Die etiek en sakepraktyke van Eskom is gewoon ongelooflik.

Julle ryk ouens het al klaar weer vergeet van die boertjies hier in Noordwes.

Gaan dit goed?  Dit word warm en die bosluise begin wemel. Wanneer gaan ons daardie “upgrade” model van jou inlyf?

Hier by ons het Eskom laas maand n bom op ons gebars deur ons net so terloops te verwittig dat 6 X 675KVA kraglyne hier deur n deel van my plaas vanaf Ellisras af deurkom. Verbeel jou!

Hulle het n “swart” maatskappy Margen Enviromental Services aangestel teen miljoene om sodanige EIA te doen.

Nodeloos om te weet dat hulle nie op een boer se plaas in 360km was nie, en deur hulle agterlosigheid of gebrek aan kennis wil hulle baie natuurmense wat krities vir die land is se toekoms vernietig.

Ons gaan hulle natuurlik baklei vir wat dit werd is, maar dit is nogal n magtelose gevoel want die politieke besluit is eintlik al geneem. Ons wil net die lyne geskuif kry na n minder sensitiewe gebied.

Dis hoekom ons natuur boertjies slim ouens soos julle nodig het om binne julle invloeds-sfeer ook bohaai te maak teen hierdie sonde wat hulle wil pleeg teen die natuur.

Onder aan is een van my pleidooie in epos wat ek aan Margen en Eskom gerig het, net om jou n aanduiding te gee.

Dit sal interessant wees om te hoor wat jou opinie hieroor is.

Ek dink as ons genoeg publieke deelname hieraan kan kry mag hulle moontlik luister.

With the reservation of all my rights!

General:

If one take time and study public participation reports available on the Eskom web my blood is boiling, because it becomes quite evident and clear that Margen and for that matter Eskom has given much more attention to, and involved stake holders only to the North of Rustenburg. For some or other strange reason our area  was neglected. That’s why I endorse the comments in the letter of Iwamanzi that Margen must substantiate their claims that our community was involved with dates and attendance registries. Up to the Koster meeting of 24 August we (the Selons River Valley and surrounding areas) was not even on your data base.

That is totally unacceptable!!

The effected farm:

My farm boundaries includes three title deeds;

A)     Kareekloof , 976JQ (Previously known as Portion 51(portion of portion 37) Vlakhoek,323JQ)

B)      Portion 29, Spitskop, 368JQ

C)      Honingnestkrans, 367JQ

The farm borders to the west onto Iwamanzi(Mr Stan Burger), to the north-west onto Rugania(Mr Roelf Odendaal), to the north onto Mr Kevin Greenwood, to the east Klein Paradys(Mr Bert Groenewald) and to the south Vlakhoek(Mr Stan Burger). It covers approx 1400ha.

Game Farming and Tourism:

When the land was bought 8 years ago, this was unproductive marginal cattle grazing veld.

Millions were spend on game fencing, chalets, guest house, abattoir and the introduction of game species. 14 Species were introduced that now flourishes here.

Kareekloof is now a commercial developed and operational Game Farm.

Bush-Pro Safaris is the hunting and operational division of the business.  We hold a Hunting Exemption Permit as well as a special Bow Hunting Permit from Department Nature Conservation.

We are a Outfitting and Professional Hunter operation registered with PHASA(Professional Hunters Association SA)

Kareekloof and Bush-Pro Safaris have spend hundreds of thousands of Rands on web sites and marketing materials locally and overseas to bring hunters and tourists to this pristine part of our Province and Country.

Our scenic hiking trails is marketed worldwide, but nobody in his/her right mind would take a hiking trip underneath high voltage power lines.

The Guest House at Kareekloof is also registered at FEDHASA and the Tourism Council of Northwest.

NOTE: The planned power lines will KILL this side of our business entirely!!!!

Livestock Farming:

We further own a registered Nguni Cattle herd and a registered Damara Sheep Stud. After consultation with experts at the Northwest University  in Potchefstroom as well as Pretoria University it is highly recommended to keep stud animals as far away as possible from High Voltage Power Lines.

NOTE: Once again your power lines will negatively influence my farming!!!

Historical Importance:

We must also not forget the significant importance of my farm for instance with reference to the Anglo Boer War.

This information is available to your “experts” if they simply type in Vlakhoek into a Google search. The cemetery for English and Boer soldiers and families that lost their lives in these valleys is here for them to see. Your proposed massive lines will almost run across it. So much for your EIA. Or perhaps cultural history involving white people does not count? Further more, the farm is littered with rock structures that dates back to the Tswana  Iron era. There are several structures on Vlakhoek(now Kareekloof) and Spitskop. If the “experts” only had made effort to visit our sensitive areas.

Fauna and Flora:

On the fauna and flora we can just go on forever. I can put it to you in writing that the Eagles that nests here in these cliffs will leave forever because of the magnetic interference these lines will create. Some of our “Aloe Marlothii” plants are almost 12 meters in height, not to even speak of some “Wild Olive” trees that is hundreds of years old. They will simply be destroyed and removed if in the way of these lines. It is an absolute sin against nature!!

Summary:

I am still of the opinion that this whole “EIA” was an office exercise by drawing some lines on maps, enhancing it with thick theoretical reports to impress the authorities and uninformed people. If the consultants can manage to bulldoze it through Department Environmental  Affairs for their stamp of approval they can sit back and receive a massive pay-check(Millions) for an inferior job done. Do you think it is our right to know what this “EIA” process costs?

NOTE: It is a studied fact that Game Farms creates 7 - 9 times more jobs than a cattle farm of the same size. So Eskom must explain to hundreds of people who’s jobs are in danger simply because the High Voltage Power Lines has made it difficult if not impossible for land owners to successfully conduct their businesses in the Wildlife Industry!!

Owners and investors in this Selons River Valley has significantly contributed to the creation of jobs and upliftment of previous unemployed and disadvantaged people in and around Derby!!!!

Eskom will never be able to compensate me for the financial and emotional input into this farm, not even to think of the consequential loss of income with regard to foreign tourists and hunters that would rather look for other un-spoilt regions.
